About This Game

When a series of gruesome murders shake a small town after a strange aristocrat dies and his body goes missing, rumors of a supernatural monster abound. In life Sir William was known to be a cruel and evil man, rumored to be the murderer behind many unsolved crimes. Now in death, this latest spurt of crime has the entire village shaking in fear with some even fleeing. The local police are beside themselves and have made no headway in solving the crimes. Detective Briscol, a man of logic and principles and Timothy Moor, a poor immigrant turned petty thief become unlikely partners to solve these terrible crimes. Alternating between these roles, players will investigate these strange events and gradually reveal a dark secret.

pretty boring game..started to get interesting at the end and then just ended with the worst ending ever..dont buy..even on sale..who are these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s that put out these games...do they even care??. The game seemed interesting at first, despite it's annoying tendancy to rule out simple solutions to problems based on your character being an\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665 Do not be tempted.

The mystery behind the game seemed fascinating - it wasn't. at all.

Everything about this game was an unbelivable letdown.. This game seems to be the victim of a budget shortage. It starts well enough, but as it reaches a point of tension, it just... stops. I can only think that they simply ran out of money and shipped what they had, because it's just unacceptable as it is now. Also, the "alter ego" of the title never even comes up in the game at all.. I was pretty excited to play this game since it was from the developers of Mata Hari which was a great game. And this game did not dissappoint me except at the extremely poor ending. The story starts off with Timothy who was a thief and escaping from police. He and his faithful friend Brian decides to go to America and start a new life. The story also takes the perspective of Detective Briscol who recently moves to Plymouth from the country side. He is asked to invesitgate a graveyard robbery. He attempts to solve the case and the player can take the roles of both Tim and Briscol to progress the game. Mysterious details unreveal about the dead Sir William Lewis who is considered as a white beast killing people when attempting to do so. The plot thickens and the twists are incredible in the story. Although the game play is not long as I expected it was worth playing.

It should be said that the game has a lot of bugs where you cannot see the characters- this happened to me in two locations (inside the bar cellar and in the cell). The puzzles are quite good, yet very simple and requires both observation and combining items for the successful execution of a puzzle. There weren't many locations to explore except just a few places. There were a few characters but the characterization is well done. Even though Timothy is a thief you'd see the kind nature to him and even tho Briscol is from the police you'd see how selfish he is. It just shows that despite what job they do they still have contrasting personalities. The game has a few emotional moments but not too strong.

The plot has a lot of holes which were never explained- I don't know if there are any alternative routes. But, it doesn't specify what happened to the journalist or information about Tim's locket seems so suspicious. Also from the name of the game is Alter Ego. But, I don't know how it relates to the game at all. Maybe because of the changing actions of the protagonists in the end, it's specified as such.A sequel is necessary to explain those and I'd gladly buy it if it comes out. I feel like the story got rushed at the latter, at just the ending so a sequel is very necessary.. Decent story. Would probably pay 6 bucks max for it.. The game was pretty good, quite hooking story, you are just this little curious enough to ...maybe end this game but the suspance is ruined by some way too slow animations, like, dude, move !
And...sadly...meh ending, I didn't like it, felt too rushed after all the long way to it, I expect more, and maybe more positive, it didn't gave me emotions, like "cool ending" it just felt like...i was just sitting there thinking if that...THAT was actually the finale?
but going to buys this...I wouldn't do that again, medium quality, full of bugs, I mean, invisible characters or game not playing or crashing, I found my way out, it's a pity because once again the game was pretty good and I wanted to see how things turned out,. I loved the graphics and the storyline but the ending was really bad, expecting part 2 is on its way.. I finished Alter Ego yesterday. The game is slow-paced and I was a bit bored in the beginning. Gradually though, the writing and plot sucked me in. I then enjoyed it very much until the end. But before I go on, let me just say that you should not pay full price for this game. I'd pick it up if it's under $4.

The character dialogue is extremely well done. You really get a feel for these characters and their traits, biases, and personalities. The other really nice thing about this game is the atmosphere. The settings are nicely done and you feel as though you are in dreary Plymouth.

The game is frustrating at times because you cannot progress unless you have done every *little* thing. This sometimes required me to consult walkthroughs. Also, the game sometimes crashed while taking screenshots. Save regularly.

All in all, it's a decent game. Unfortunately, the ending is abrupt and somewhat spoiled the emotions I had built up. The game's conclusion is a complete suprise (I thought it was a bug) and definitely not in a good way. Still, it will give you a few enjoyable hours if you get it on sale.. It's one of my favourite point & click adventure games now. My favourite one is Black Mirror, so it's really no surprise. This game feels very similar to Black Mirror, obviously because it's made by the same developers. Slow-paced, with great visuals, quiet and gloomy atmosphere, I really liked the voice acting too (mostly because of the character's accents). The only problem is the unfinished ending, it's rushed and feels like a big chunk of the game was cut out. I wish the developers had the budget\/time to finish the game properly.. I like this game, however it is rather unfortunate and annoying how it forces you to be heterosexual. it doesn't let you explore your sexuality at all. That's not realistic.
