About This Game

About:

Having discovered an ancient portal, you take a leap of faith and suddenly find yourself amidst the remnants of an ancient alien civilization. Cryptic puzzles, forgotten technologies and treasured relics are riddled among the beautiful wilderness that has engulfed the remains of this fallen race.

If you are to learn their secrets, you must unearth the fate of the civilization that called these lost worlds home.

Epitasis is a sci-fi exploration puzzle game, set on far off distant worlds.

Features:

  • Explore at your own pace; traverse the colorful, non-linear world in any way you choose, day or night.
  • Learn to use alien machinery, provide power via lasers, disable security systems, and more.
  • Every area beautifully hand crafted, from large mountain swept vistas to the smallest of details.
  • Beautiful and dynamic soundtrack that evolves as you progress through the game.
  • Discover ancient relics, jump through space bending portals, and unearth the fate of the race that called these lost worlds home.

The Developer:

Epitasis features about 3-4 hours of content for the average player. It is a casual puzzle-exploration game, with a larger emphasis on art and atmosphere. It is built by essentially one developer and a composer, taking inspiration from incredible games such as the Talos Principle, Myst, and Fez, but is not designed to be nearly as challenging as those titles. Please don't hesitate to contact us to provide feedback, problems with the game, or to simply find out if this is the right sort of game for you.

This little gem is a nice puzzle game, which reminds me of "The Talos Principle" but on a "No Man's Sky" type planet\/moon. The riddles are not too hard and you can explore the areas in your own speed. From what I've seen there is only one puzzle that needs a bit of timing, but it's rather easy.
Don't expect too much playtime, an experienced player may solve it in as short as 2 hours, the average player in something like 4 hours and if you really like to explore all areas you may be in for something like 6 hours or more.
It's mostly developed by only one guy and he interacts with the players via the discussion forum here, which is nice. And given this last biets of information it is impressive what one can achieve.. 'Epitasis' is a beautiful, mesmerizing first-person puzzler in the same vein as games like 'The Talos Principle' or 'The Witness'. It pulls strongly from 70s sci-fi art for it's breathtakingly gorgeous alien worlds, which have a full day\/night cycle and dynamic weather system. The beauty of this game is something to marvel at and the worlds that you're brought to feel ancient and unique and full of mystery.

The story is incredibly simple and the game prefers to show, not tell, for the most part (although there are secrets that point towards a deeper backstory if you look for them hard enough). The puzzles themselves are all fun to solve, though there's a bit of learning curve as you have to actually watch and interact with the world and it's technology to begin to understand how everything works. But once you do, the puzzles are mostly fun and straightforward, though some of them had me scratching my head for a while before I figured out the answer, which I think is what any good puzzler should do from time to time.

Overall, 'Epitasis' is a short, well-crafted first-person puzzle game that has it's heart set firmly in the colorful, ambient, and mysterious alien worlds it lets you explore. It's not a long game (I actually wish there were more puzzles and more mysterious to try and figure out) but the time spent playing it is well worth the price and the sense of wonder you'll have while looking at your screen.

A final note: the music is just absolutely fantastic. Funk Fiction created the soundtrack and the way the songs flow from one to another while traversing the world is perfect, as is the ambiance that the music creates for each area. If you have the money, I would absolutely recommend picking up the soundtrack!. "If you are to learn their secrets, you must unearth the fate of the race that called this world home"

I sort of knew going in that the above promise would not be fulfilled: it's a classic switch and bait, where you are pulled in with the promise that there will be some grand revelation at the end of the game; there isn't, and that was a major disappointment, despite anticipating this outcome. That being said - I loved playing it. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and there were times when I just stood there, looking up at the sky. The gameplay was decent too, if not a little basic, but there were enough stop-and-think puzzles in there to keep it interesting. If you are looking for some relaxing puzzle play, with some cool "oh, that button does that" moments, then this is for you. If you are looking to be challenged to the point where your brain haemorrhages and your nose bleeds, then move on - this is not for you, nothing to see here. Epitasis looks and sounds fantastic. The use of colour in this game is gorgeous and draws the eye at every turn. Unfortunately, the puzzle's I bought this for are sadly easy and even feel like they've been padded out with long distances to walk between areas.

If you're just looking for some beautiful scenery to wander around in, look no further.

If you're looking for challenging puzzles, maybe try Talos principle or Antechamber.. I generally don't play puzzle games but this one caught my attention. Puzzles are challenging but not to the point i want to pull my hair out. It has a beautiful atmosphere, makes me stop in my tracks and take in the sites.. Summary: Loved the aesthetics, music, and gameplay, puzzles were trivially easy, don't get it if you want any challenge.

This is Talos Principle for kiddos. It uses a similar world system as Talos, where you can explore a beautiful world and 2-3 puzzles are contained within each world. Sometimes the puzzles overlap which is cool. The way the game uses colors is really fascinating and advanced, so if you're after effects and aesthetics, you'll love the hell out of that aspect of this game. There's also dynamic weather! This works for the beauty of the game but can make navigating a bit confusing because levels at certain times of day do not look anything like they do at other times of the day. Loved the color and the natural design, simplistic but pretty. The soundtrack is amazing as well, it really added to the whole experience and is one of the better ambient game soundtracks I've heard.

The puzzles in this game just plain suck. Think about the tutorial level in any puzzle game, and imagine if the whole game was made off that. There's nothing new here that you wouldn't have seen in another game already, and it's almost an insult to your intelligence at times. I was really waiting for it to get harder but it never did. The "hard" part was finding out what I am supposed to do and where I'm supposed to go, which is a big no no for puzzle games in my opinion. I beat the game in ~5 hours, and that's being generous since I went to eat dinner and left it on.

DO NOT GET THIS GAME IF YOU LIKE PUZZLES. THIS IS AN ADVENTURE GAME \/ WALKING SIM WITH PUZZLE ELEMENTS.

I would only recommend this game to someone if they have literally never played a puzzle game in their life, but even then, since there is no tutorial or dialog to show the player what to do, I'm not even sure I could say that. For the price point, I can appreciate it for being a joy to admire, but not as a puzzle game. Also FYI, you don't learn sh!t about the lore of the game, unless I'm missing a significant amount, don't believe the description.

There is only one puzzle in the game that was impressive, and that impressiveness was ruined by the fact that there was no leadup or follow up for it, just a puzzle with a cool planet mechanic, that I couldn't even figure out for the longest time because there was no indication that this was even a puzzle to begin with. If they wanted a wide variety of puzzles and cool puzzles like this one, great! But they should have thrown more than just one in from left field.

I like this game and think there is a lot of improvement in puzzle design possible, but they need to add more features other than cubes, pressure plates, and push buttons. I would love this game so much if they had better puzzles because everything else is perfect!. a fine game by some talented folks who really wanted to make One Of These

i wouldn't call any part of epitasis "original" - lots of cube\/button puzzles (my least favorite involved multiple minutes of you moving cubes one by one across a map several times), the seeker mines from talos principle, a language made up of squares a la fez, color palettes derived from the likes of the witness and no man's sky, and music so exactly like Tycho that i thought they'd gotten Tycho to do the soundtrack.

this will not burn your brain like talos principle but if you find the act of poking at your environment solving simple puzzles fun, this is a fine couple hours

edit: the best part of the game is the little beep-zoop noises the flying npc robots make (not the drones, the one with an eye). excellent sound. Cute little puzzle game. A little rough around the edges, but it makes up for it by being exceedingly pretty.. Geez, the reviews here have been harsh and I'm really quite suprised, because playing this was a fantastic experience.
First off, it's utterly beautiful, vivid, lush, vast, atmospheric. Everything you could ever want graphics-wise.

It's the type of game that doesn't really give you a story, rather, you just simply get thrown in.
Each world is great, towing the line between 'open world' and 'linear', a nice balance between the two.
Contrary to other reviews, I always had the sense of generally knowing what to do, and if I didn't, it just meant I had to explore more! Which is GREAT! That's exactly what made this game so balanced and high quality.

The puzzles are definitely not original, with the Talos Principle's style of gates and enemies. I don't think that takes away from the game though, the puzzles were quick and easy and fluid to solve. I'm not the kinda gamer who actually enjoys hard or even medium difficulty puzzles. I like to just coast through the game really nicely, and this provided the perfect difficulty level.

Frankly, seeing how brutal the reviews have been for this, Kairo and NaissanceE, makes me lose some faith in the gaming community. Just be patient guys! There's a wealth of beauty to be had in this genre of games. Maybe play it for more than an hour before writing a negative review.

So overall, this is just a high quality game, I'm impressed, and I had a really good time.
