Pete, is a curious but lost boy who has survived in the forest for 6 years but he's not alone. He forms a friendship with a kind and warmhearted dragon and the people town try to figure out the secrets of Elliot and try to find Pete's family.
The boy Pete is e traveling with his parents, however there is a car accident in a lonely road and only Pete survives. He runs to the forest and is surrounded by a pack of wolves, but a dragon saves him and Pete calls him Elliot. Six years later, Pete is found by the ranger Grace and her family and she brings Pete home. He is welcomed by her father Meacham: her daughter Natalie; and her husband Jack, but he misses Elliot. Meanwhile the dragon seeks Pete out and Jack's brother Gavin sees him. He organizes a posse to capture the dragon while Grace drives Pete, Natalie and Meacham to the place where the boy was found. What will happen to the dragon Elliot?
If you're expecting an emotional adventure that'll bring tears to your eyes, get ready to be disappointed. While there are some touching moments between Pete and Elliot, only the start of the film really tugs at the heart. The initial reaction at Elliot could be considered amusing, if it hadn't already been established that he docile and friendly, by the Grandfather, no less. It was, instead, somewhat pathetic. The characters were shallow, and clearly not that intelligent. I also take issue with the Ranger's hair; someone out in the forest as much as her should not have such perfectly groomed hair, all the time. Plus, it seems utterly ridiculous that Pete would choose to leave Elliot for a family he's just met, because the Mom resembles his, and they're good at reading bedtime stories. Yes, that may have been the sensible choice, but he's a child, not an adult capable of foreseeing the consequences that might have come with staying with Elliot.
I loved this movie!!! Tulsa's newspaper critic said it was boring and the CGI was crude. Well, he needs glasses is all I can say! You meet Elliot in the first 5 minutes of the show and it's love at first sight. He is SO lifelike and the detail is so fantastic you just want to reach out and pet him. His facial expressions and the sheer wonder of it all are just amazing!

The story does not lag at all in my opinion. In fact the entire 1:44 run time was full of anticipation and excitement. I cried about 3 times, so be prepared blubber heads. It's about love, friendship, family and belonging. Your heart will swell like the Grinch's while you watch this movie, so do yourself a favor and go see it! It abandons its subtlety en route to becoming a moralistic screed about the preservation of the nuclear family.
