Rakesh Kadam, a truly honest inspector of Goa (Colva) police kills himself as he could not live with the thought that people disgrace him of being a tainted police officer. He was framed in a corruption case as Kadam was proving to be a major blockade to gangster operations in Goa city. His wife Megha (Sonali Kulkarni) takes it upon herself to fight against the odds. Meanwhile, Jaykant Shikre (Prakash Raj), a notorious gangster, takes on Megha and accuses her of trying to clear her husband's name while flaunting his good side during media interactions. Shikre is ill-famous for dacoity, extortion, kidnapping, killings, land grabbing, and other related oppression. Another valiant, charismatic, and self-disciplined police inspector Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgan) who operates in his unique style - solves cases conventionally without summoning people to his police station in Shivgad. He becomes very popular in his village and simultaneously falls in love with stunning Kavya Bhosle (Kajal Agarwal). And, a heartwarming love story unfolds between the two. In a High Court directive wherein Shikre was told to present himself, for a different case, at Shivgad police station, but he refuses to do so as the village is located very far on the borders of Maharashtra and Karnataka. Although, self-styled Bajiroa summoned him and enraged Jaikant travels all the way to the police station where he was received uncongenially like a small-time thug. Devastated and humiliated with the insult in front of his army of goons, Shikre ensures inspector Bajirao gets transferred to the city as to wreak vengeance on him. Shikre challenges his ethics and beliefs - an attempt to belittle him after being transferred to Goa (Colva) police station. Bajirao is shattered up to the extent that he wanted to leave the job and go back to his village Shivgad. And, that is where Kavya jumps in and convinces him to stand-up against Jaikant Shikre and his dreadful goon gang. Megha has been meeting with ministers, high-rank police officials and vainly insists on CBI inquiry into her husband's case, however, she gets nothing but disappointment. The news breaks out of Shikre contesting local elections and he wins. Bajirao never misses any opportunity to set Shikre up, but to no avail since corrupted senior police officials, bureaucrats, and ministers have never lent any support to weed out gangsters like Jaikant. Bajirao is the only inspector after Kadam who stood up sternly against him. Justice has been denied in Goa city since Jaikant's rise to power until one-day Bajirao with entire Goa police force rose to the occasion, launched an offensive against Jaikant Shikre and he was killed few hours before his oath-taking ceremony as minister. Inspector Rakesh Kadam gets clean chit posthumously and was praised for his role in the eradication of crime from the city.This powerful action-emotional drama is one of the finest works of Rohit Shetty and Team.
A truly honest police officer is transferred to a town controlled by a gangster he has humiliated. The gangster believes he can use good power to bring down this officer who made him look foolish and weak.
This movie was brilliant and entertaining but it's really good to be able and enjoyable I love the songs and entertaining songs

8/10 The bad guy (Prakash Raj blurting Marathi phrases) uses his power for bad deeds. The distressed people have no one to look up to. Just when the whole situation seems totally helpless, the hero (a frowning Ajay Devgn) finishes his bath at sunrise and rises from the water. Apparently no one else could attempt such an Herculean task and so the entire village breaks into festive songs on his return.

The eponymous hero happens to be a policeman-cum-judge who doesn't register cases against the villagers as they all happen to be his relatives. By this time, you realise the narration is pretty linear. The bad guy is bad, the good guy is better & the heroine (Kajal Agarwal) is the best! Yes! She breaks into an impromptu song on a strange island when the hero reciprocates her proposal of love. My friend used that time to take a pee-break. Great!

This is precisely the kind of movies that filled the Indian screens during the 80's and early 90's. Characters had no complex shades. Hero enters the screen with a sole motive to finish the villain's role. Pretty-faced heroines are used as eye-candy. Well, the director (Rohit Shetty) and team had promised the same. So no complaints, please.

Although Singham follows the rule to the 'T', it adds a bit of garnishing to the old recipe. The movie does have many believable moments which make you go "Awww". A side character (a veteran Ashok Saraf) is used to highlight the problems of a policeman and his reasons to stray from the expected path of virtue. The heroine motivates her beau when he feels low and incompetent against the villain's might. She unfailingly stands behind him to hold his gun & shirt while he flexes his biceps and lashes the bad guys with his belt. By the way, was it made of leather or rexin? The answer certainly deserves a place in a sequel.

The Marathi-heavy dialogue delivery packs punches throughout the story while hero delivers the kicks (literally!) to different people. The climax is aptly handled by the over-hamming acting of National Award winning Prakash Raj (Wanted, Kanchivaram) who seems to be the perfect import from the south-side for such movies. He runs through the fake buildings in town (by cinematographer Dudley) with lots of police-vans chasing him. Typical of Rohit Shetty films. He is a true lover of cars. Please watch his movies if you are one. You may learn how to pull villains out of cars that rotate more than a helicopter over your head or give a rose to a girl when you happen to be in such a car (All the Best: Fun Begins - 2009).

Masala films such as this one, often have a great music score to boast of (like the original Tamil Singam and the recent Dabangg). But the music here by the Gogavale brothers is plainly forgettable. All you remember is the title track's roar. Other songs are simply a bore.
