This is a great game for time passing and a great metaphor for life's long run. After wading through all the idiots leaving idiotic signs and appreciating the true shared wisdom and words of what little of those signs are left. One can leave their mark, positive or join the idiots, on the beautiful game that is The Master. For $0.99 the moral of this seemingly storyless journey is probably one of the best one's I've seen.. Extremely short game with an interesting visual and sound atmosphere. Each player can write a single message, and it will be interesting (or not) to return regularly to consult them. It's not a horrible game, but there's just no point. it feels like something that's been put together by someone who is practicing in their extremely early game development stages. There's no bugs, there's no offensively bad things, it's just pointless. You walk up some weird, red stairs that randomly has points where you need to jump to reach the next step, as if the developer misplaced some steps but just said "Screw it, they can jump, whatever." and moved on, you reach the end. and that's it. Takes about 5 minutes. Below I tell you what happens in the game, from start to finish. You start in a somewhat good-looking forest area, right next to the stairs you will climb. As you walk up the stairs the noises you hear change, from quite silent to roaring winds to echoing music till you reach the top where the music stops echoing and becomes closer as you open a door and talk to "The Master". At this point some text appears that has no coherent sense, it clips through the sides of the house and then some more text appears where you're asked to rate the advice of The Master, raging from 1 to 5 stars, I gave him 1 star. I promptly jumped off the mountain; plunging down to my inevitable death. I then hit the Escape button to see if the game had an in-game options menu, but instead the game closed when I pressed Escape. I then went to write this review but discovered I needed more playtime, so I launched the game, made a cup of coffee, and now we are here. Again, it's not a horrible game but has no point and is in the end an absolute waste of time and money unless you have 1$ to spare and want another game with 100% achievements in. Not recommended as the vast majority of people do not play games because they want to play it as fast as possible and get 100% achievements in it. I guess 1 unique thing about this game is that each player can plant a sign with a few words on it wherever they want in the game that other players can read as they play the game. Reading other players signs is what I spent about half of my playtime on. Also the VHS/grain filter is horrible, the game actually has a pretty interesting options menu that appears before you start the game, why you don't have the option to turn the filter off is beyond me. The store page says it has partial-controller support.. What a metaphor for life: - Insignificant - Uneventful - A waste of time - Bad graphics - You reach the end and all you can think is "That's it?". This game has a neat little idea, it's pretty cute and simple. I really wish steam had a "neutral" review, because I'd probably give it that. There's not much to this from a game, and it's hard to talk about really. All I can say is that even the slightest hint of a narrative would probably be more engaging and probably make for a better experience.. I don't really know how to review this, It has a lot of potential, I like the idea of climbing and exploring along the way, it has some nice ideas and effects. however I feel this "game" is only a demo of that idea, it's lacking a lot of content and screams rush job, however I hope there will be a sequel. I wouldn't recomend this game, but if the developer wanted to expand on this idea, I'd support it.. all i can say is dont get this game, it looks bad and my eyes really hurt. meh its alright. The Master is a short little romp wherein you climb a very long staircase to beseech the Master's wisdom. I went into this expecting a short relaxing walking sim, and perhaps some artsy design where the journey itself makes you think and that is the Master's wisdom. Was I right? . Sort of. Players can leave signs that other players can read, and most have them have ruined the mountain with tasteless graffiti. I was briefly discouraged, but I wanted to press on; I was still curious what was at the top, and the scenery is nice enough if you tune out all the edgy meme posting. Every player gets one sign, and I used mine to leave some positive encouragement, in case anyone else needed it. I fully expect other players to surround that signpost with "or eat a (bad word) lol" type addendums within the week, but whatever. I can only control my end of things, and I did my part to make what I could better. Maybe someone else out there will appreciate it. If they do, it was worth it. Oddly, the signs ruined my contemplative experience so hard that they wrapped around the other side and it somehow became contemplative again. I could go full on English class lost up my own rear here if I'm not careful, but. This was a journey that everyone undertakes, and each person has one message they can impart to everyone else. Most people are lost in their own shallow culture and wasted theirs on "lol." Too much of this, and the journey itself starts to feel not even worth it anymore. I chose to respond with something heartfelt and encouraging, in hopes that someone else would see it and be inspired to keep going. I can't control everyone else, but I wanted to make my small contribution to the world a positive one. This is a metaphor about life. And that is the Master's wisdom. For all the toxic sludge I just waded through, I feel oddly good about all this. For 99 cents, I got a thought-provoking experience, some pretty screenshots, and a neat philosophical discussion about life and memes with my friends whom I was talking to while playing this. In that sense, The Master is a good, worthwhile investment.. worth $100 :D best game evehr
