What can I say about My Time except the absolute most positive things. One thing I have noticed on my old ♥♥♥♥♥♥ HDD was the slight stutter when cutting down trees or mining but that thing is dying anyways, when I moved it to my SSD it went away. The crafting does take quite some time, but that's when you go mining, explore dangerous ruins, or socialize around town. Socializing could be a bit better, some voice lines are missing from characters (Phyllis marriage lines are missing) but considering this game was EA not long ago they're updating things still. Normally I'm an FPS, RTS type of person, but I've always had a soft spot for Harvest moon, Animal crossing type of games, and this fits that category. I was addicted when Stardew came out until I beat it, this game has taken that place.. I've been crashing a lot lately. I can't even finish a day. It's always at certain time of the day, suddenly the game crashed. I thought it was my computer when I left in on pause for some time, it didn't crash. I can't play this game anymore because it won't let me finish the day. I can't move on.. The game is fun and brings me peace after a long day. But this review is exclusively to voice a criticism that still bugs me to death. There is romance in this game, npcs that can be romanced who look like full grown adults. However the customization (at least of the male character) is extremely narrow. I am a full grown man but it feels so weird to try to create a masculine "manly" character and having to be satisfied with looking like a 13 year old boy when faced with dating a character like Phyllis. It makes Phyllis look like a pedophile. Even adding the only beard provided in customization leaves your character looking like just a 13 year old with a fake beard on. Not to mention you walk around the town and see these other male npcs (see Arlo) with broad shoulders and considerable height and masculine features relative to what we can have. They even get masculine adult facial features that can't be achieved in customization.
TL;DR: Game needs to add character customization that allows making a character that doesn't look juvenile. I'm an adult for heavens sake.. I like the game very much but do to constant bugs it affects the flow of the gameplay. I do not experience lag spikes or lagging in general like other players just very frequent crashes between load screens. Not sure why. When they push forward for updates to fix some of these issues the community has brought up i will change my review.. Originally, I purchased this game as a pre-release. I think I paid $10 or $15. I played for a weekend or two until I couldn't go any longer. Then I forgot about the game. As I looked through my Steam games this week, I came across this title again to find out that it had an official release date. I checked it out again.
I can't find the words to express how in love with this game I am. If you like Stardew Valley, then you'll love this game. It's like that game, but in 3D and on steroids.. I found the game quite enjoyable and hope that in time more content will be added to further the story and, perhaps, add more places to explore.. It was fun till the second month. Now the game crushes randomly... when I open a chest or a door. When I run over the fields. When I fight against monsters... It's frustrating. I hope they fix the game, cause it's really fun to play :(. This game is honestly one of my all time favorite games. I've been in something of a slump lately regarding gaming, with even the games from my usual genres not exciting the way they used to. I'm not sure if it's me (I've been super busy and super stressed out) or if it's them (maybe the games I've been playing just aren't made in a way that I'm going to enjoy them), but either way it's been rough.
Enter "My Time At Portia." It's been massively addictive to me. I just keep going and going and going. Even when I hit a flaw (there's no counter on the fish tank, the quest system can be counter-intuitive), I still feel driven to keep going. I love the characters, I love the plot, I love the building system, it's just so much fun.
A lot of people are comparing this to game to "Stardew Valley" and "Harvest Moon," and I'm not sure that's really correct. Certainly, some aspects are the same (relationship building, quests, etc), but the farming is incredibly limited. If you're looking for a farming simulator, this isn't it. If you're looking for a game where you explore and battle to find materials to craft new items and build relationships with interesting people, well, I'm having an awesome time.
