well i think this is probably my first review:
the game is awesome (for early access)
the problem is there are to many server and not main server,
the population is very very low (if you like single player as much as i this is for you)
i play online only to find some other people's old bases and steal the loot,
the first hour is super hard because you need to travel with a crappy car and find some good spot to start a base,
if you give it a go it can be great there is a lot of things to offer just dont expect some tutorial or something like this
well in my opinion:
8/10. I’ll make a more in detail review when I have time. But two points I want to make very clear.
1. This game is like cocaine, i clocked 42 hours in 3.5 days of release. If you have a child that you need to feed DO not buy this game.
2. People who cry about the vehicle handling do not appreciate how heavy the vehicles are. They load up with about 3 literal tons of resources and the wonder why the vehicle handles LIKE IT WEIGHS 3 TONS. Upgrading your vehicles or getting better ones greatly improves them.
. Project 5: Sightseer is set in a beautiful procedurally generated world which players will explore from a selection of land, air, and sea vehicles. As you go you’ll collect resources, eventually claim a piece of land, and slowly build a base. Everything takes longer than it should. You’ll be exploring for at least an hour before you find a suitable piece of land, mining takes forever, and progress goes at a snail’s pace initially. For this reason, Project 5 is probably not for newcomers to the sandbox genre. But if you have a group of friends and a lot of patience you may find something here. Full Preview Available[oldgrizzledgamers.com]. Well, there's not much like this so you don't have any alternatives, so I also have nothing else to compare this to.
Which means....
This game is great at what it is! It's very very unique and can be quite relaxing. There's lots of stuff to build and tech to research and NPC that attack you and other random encounters and different terrain types and vehicles and... god knows what else. Just, a whole lot to do.
. Surprisingly addictive, what a fantastic resource gathering/building system!
Seriously, developers of other games should see how mining/building/research is done here and take a lesson.
Also the performance on it is amazing, early access or no, load times were incredibly fast and there were no lag issues at all. I did experience a wierd 'fall through the world' thing, but to be fair, I think I'd left the game on for some 20 hours and after relogging, this didn't happen again.
We had a load of fun unlocking all the upgrades/vehicles, puzzling through the 'chemistry' system of what gas/liquid/etc. makes what, seeking out and finding rare resources, setting up trade routes to our main base, and of course building/designing the main base.
I imagine that for those who like the whole pvp thing, there's many more hours of fun here. Playing it as a single player/duo non-conflict building game will net you a reasonable amount of enjoyment but there's no real replay value after that, sadly.
I was dubious at first about the fact that you control a vehicle rather than a character, and felt a lack of character identity throughout my play, just hopping from vehicle to vehicle. There's no sort of experience/skill/advancement here, just faction based research to unlock more equipment. Unless you're in it for the competitive aspect, you will run out of things to do, despite this I certainly feel like I got my money's worth. After a week of binge-play though, having unlocked everything and such, I find there's nothing really to do, as there's no real pve-type content, no character development, and our base was 'done'. I completely understand that what I wanted out of this game is not necessarily what is intended though, so can't fault it for me 'playing it wrong'. :X I reached this same point with Conan Exiles, Dark and Light, Citadel Forged with Fire, etc. etc. If you're into the whole survival/pvp thing though this seems like a great starting point for that sort of play.. Great Game, Love it so much. Feels extremly well developed. The Dev is always listening to feedback and actually takes action on it. Very friendly and approachable person. Feels like Daddy :D
Edit: After requesting for a US Marine flag to be added, the Dev's added it to the Main US Server. 20/10 Rating, 15/5 Stars.. EA Review from 2/9/2018
TLDR
First I want to say I really enjoy this game - its got a nice feel to it and has a nice blend of resource management and building. Multiplayer and single player are nice feels - and my only real complaint is the tech tree is pretty short as of right now. That said if you like building bases and crazy inventions with logic you can get your moneys worth.
Pro
Stable - this is not a joke - on day 1 of buying the game I went back to check if it was a EA since I had purchased it day 1 of steam - it has had a few moments of issues but 98% of the time its more stable then my other games.
Nice looking - graphics have a nice look - biomes blend well - no random biomes duct taped togther.
Lots of resources - a good number but not so many that you need a spreadsheet to track them.
Mod support - I will give it to them having mod support so early on and with the devs having walk throughs and videos on how to that was a big pro for me as it shows as the game grows the mod community will really make it shine.
Con
Pretty short - if you have friends and are working togther you can really quickly blow through the research tree - its still fun to play and lots of design and contraptions can be built but research really is the driving factor.
Multiplayer is a bit hit or miss - now first off multiplayer is stable / good community - but with current tech tree limited if you have a competent group you can quickly run out of things to do people get bored and go play something else.. Great Game, even if you are going solo.
It takes some time at the beginning to get going (Grinding a bit, finding a good base spot) but once you have set up your first few extractors, start science etc. you can build stuff as you want.
Needs more variety, maybe some more customization but as it's early access there is still much to come.
Definitely one of the best early access games I have played yet.
Weak points for now:
The very early game (first two hours) is hard and kind of boring
Not much to do in End game
Much potential. Looking forward to future updates.. I love this game, play it every day!! Graphics are amazing and the game has a very stable 120+ FPS even on my 4 year old computer!
