THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. – The Deadly Games Affair – 1964

This is the fifth episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in B/W with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum plays Illya Kuryakin. Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

In this episode, both UNCLE and their arch enemy, THRUSH, are after the same target. There is a presumed dead NAZI scientist, Alexander Scourby, on the loose. The man worked on a secret suspended animation project for Hitler. Both sides want the process, though for different reasons.

The clues start when some rare stamps come up for sale at an auction. The stamps were part of a collection that was known to belong to the NAZI, Scourby. A college student, Paul Brinckerhoff is drawn into the mix. He had been hired by the NAZI to be a front man for the sale of the stamps.

The stamp sale was because Scourby needed the money to complete his experiments. He plans on bringing his Fuhrer back from suspended animation where he has been for the last 20 years. UNCLE though manages to foil the plan and turn Adolf and his scientist into a pair of deep fried pretzels.

This is a pretty entertaining episode. Of course the presence of the always gorgeous, Janine Gray as THRUSH agent, Angelique does not hurt. *Spoiler/plot- "The Deadly Games Affair", Man from U.N.C.L.E. THrush wants to capture a Natzi scientist who has learned the secret of eternal life and plans to use it on Adolf Hitler's frozen corpse.

*Special Stars- Regulars: Leo G. Carroll, Robert Vaughn, David McCallum. Alexander Scourby, Janine Gray.

*Theme- At the right time, all things should die.

*Trivia/location/goofs- B & W. The character of Janine Gray was supposed to be a re-occurring THRUSH villianess to play against Napoleon Solo until it was nixed. I thought it was a good idea and good role chemistry between them.Shot at MGM studio lot and back-lot, now gone. The ancient SS officer man (Felix Locher) in the opening teaser is played by an actor who is Jon "South Sea Island' Hall's real father.

*Emotion- An exciting confrontation of two fictional international spy rings with many spy gadgets, cars, guns, and beautiful women to keep the viewer interested in the plot. Almost an 'exploitation' genre of the spy plot from a major weekly TV show of the early 60's times.

*Based On- The TV show spy craze of the early 60's.
They're friendly enemies. It's strongly implied but his name is never referred to directly. It turns out Solo has the same blood type as Amadeus's "pickled superman" (Solo's words). So, Amadeus intends to pump out all of Solo's blood to reanimate his leader.
