Hi there, the most essential are the movers you will hire. I recommend get a quote from this long distance moving company https://starvanlinesmovers.com/ I respect most of all. First of all because the crew was on time and very professional and efficient from beginning to end. They were a pleasure to work with, as were our salesman. Informative and worked diligently to make a stressful time much easier. We hope it goes this well when our things are delivered in California!

Victory Van Moving has a bunch of good, practical tips that I recommend you read. What I’m going to tell you are some additions to their advice:

Pack all your really valuable and/or breakable stuff yourself, with bubblewrap, etc. Really breakable should be in wooden, not cardboard, boxes.

You need to tip the guys for packing. They will have a boss; give it to him and let him divvy it up. Packing guys do not go with the truck. Only the truck driver and his relief do. If he is a packer/mover, tip him as well.

You need to tip the unpackers. Same rules. BTW know where you want stuff to be unpacked in your new home; do NOT just have them put all the boxes in the garage or the living room. Plan this out BEFORE hand.

Label ALL your boxes specifically, not just general like “Kitchen.” Otherwise you will have boxes in your new house that you have NO IDEA what’s in them.

Plan where big items (beds, couches, dr tables, etc) are going to go BEFORE you get there. Measure rooms and measure items - see if they fit.
