apothecarium the renaissance of evil - premium edition

4.5h to complete with bonus chapters, skipped 2-3 puzzles.

As mentionned in most reviews and in the forums, this one is problematic in fullscreen (and this is the default way it'll start) - this also has been my experience with Win7 64b. Played fine when in windowed mode, the graphics are really nice so that's a shame that it needs to be smaller than your screen to work.

Interesting enough HOG, nice graphics, forgettable story. Get it on sale.. Puzzle clicker with beautiful art style, nice music and simple yet enjoyable story where you try to stop an evil man and save unfortunate people on your way. There are many locations for you to explore, many types of items to find, combine, use and different puzzles to challenge your brain with. There are different difficulty options for those who want the game to be more challenging or casual. You can also find gold throughout the environments or do additional mini games and use the gold to buy one time or permanent help items for the game. Some help with mini games others help find hidden items. Took me roughly 4 hours to beat and I'm very new to these types of games. I enjoyed it, if you like puzzle clickers try it out.. Apothecarium: The Renaissance of Evil tells the tale of a city doomed by a strange plague, spreading disease and chaos throughout Italy. This desperate situation caught the Medici family, imprisoning them, and time is running out.
A mad and powerful alchemist is taking lives by the hundreds, stealing their souls to further pursue his insane dream. Only one brave hero is capable of saving the kingdom, but will he have such strength?

Simple, but with a decent enough plot and serious, but predictable events, this title can still deliver a basic storyline. The player's past is as mysterious as the journey ahead. Stumbling across this infested city, and eventually going deeper to find the root of such evil.
The design is beautiful, using several traditional places, with major influences from a magic city overflowing, together with its deadly effect.
The puzzles are between easy and medium difficulty. The controls are not the best around, but with plenty of puzzles and chests around the game to unlock even more secrets, and fun puzzles, it's hard to remember that troublemaking puzzle. The hidden object scenes could be better, due technical issues...
Apothecarium: The Renaissance of Evil uses a fantastic in-game store where the player can access extras, not only to help this quest becomes easier, but also a lot more fun. Through out each new area, coins are scattered and collecting them gives the player an opportunity to purchase extra tips, potions to speed up the skipping action, buffs and really cool extras for the hidden object scenes or mini games. A fantastic idea, to incluede a small currency inside the game, to make the hero persue those hidden coins. These can also be earned by completing sequences under a certein amount of time, or completing puzzles. A small but interesting way to motivate the player.

Although steam release states 2015, the original game was released in 2013, according to the Big Fish official website. I believe the development date is much older, or the studio decided to use an outdated/old kit. The resolution used was common 10 years ago, and it's a shame that using 16:9 resolution, the image has to be stretched out. Not only that, as the graphics and animations used aren't that bad at all, with native 1280x720 resolution, this could easily pass by a new game!
The lack of options or configurations is also a problem, the only thing you can possibly change is the sound levels.

This being the Premium Edition, includes an extra chapter that I personally believe it should have been a part of the final and original game. Adding more or less an extra 40 minutes of gameplay, it also includes a more satisfying ending to the story.
There are no Steam achievements, but they are included as in-game extras, the player can unlock the trophies, and admire them in a dedicated room! In Menu, you can access videos, audio logs and even wallpaper. It's nice to have all of these extras.

Overall Apothecarium: The Renaissance of Evil has everything to be a major HO release, but lacks the most important thing; more resolutions available, a patch to fix the crash everyone seems to be having at some point in the game, and general tweaks to make the game much more enjoyable! None the less, a stable enough release from Space Monkey International.
5/10. Game flickers with on screen display from the start of launching the game (It looks like a strobe light). I have tried changing all suggested settings and have not had any luck fixing the issue. Don't waste your money on a game that is unplayable which is dissapointing because this game looked like it had a good plot and gameplay.. This game is not bad. What is pulling it to negative with a lot of people is the technical issues. My main pc with Windows 10 had the display flicker issue on full screen. I have to play in a window which is not too bad on a 27" monitor.

On my old laptop, which has Windows Vista and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
graphics, the game ran perfect on full screen. I’ve enjoyed playing the game on it just fine. I did experience one crash to the desktop though.

Technical issues aside I give it Thumbs Up. I like the game.
If you like Hidden Object games you will like this game.

Just Beware of the Technical Issues you might have running this game.. I really don't know why, but it irritated me endlessly. The minigames are too comlicated, the skip button takes an insanely long time to load, even with the potion. Some puzzles are so illogical that I found myself constantly pressing hint. Which at one point hinted me to the next screen, where it hinted me back. Uhh, thanks, I guess?. Problems with item detection, translation errors in italian, boring and/or annoying puzzles.
Random crashes to desktop.

Not recommended.. The story makes no sense. The hidden object puzzles are easy and repetitive. Several of the object manipulation puzzles are ridiculous. But as a casual time-waster, this game is fine. No reason to get stuck--the hint system is built in. Get it as part of a bundle for a dollar or two and have fun for a couple hours.. I love HOGs, but I'm not sure if I will finish this game... (For me, that's like saying I'm not sure I'm going to finish a book; it's almost sacrilegious.) It is a cool looking game, but I'm spending as much time b*tching at it as I am playing it. The HOGs are having some issues such as: not recognizing the correct item (try clicking several times and around the item), bad naming ("clutch" is apparently a C-clamp), and multiples of a named item in a scene, but only one is correct. Some of the puzzles so far are intuitive. Some, I have no idea WTH I'm suppsed to do. NO instructions on the puzzles, even in Casual mode with tutorials open (because I thought maybe I missed something). I really dislike having to look at a strategy guide, not to SOLVE a puzzle, but just to figure out what you are supposed to do. Also, the having an appropriate tool in your inventory that will work, but it's not the "right" tool, is irritating. So, I will put it aside for now and play something else. Maybe I'll come back to it. IDK...
