Freelance covert operative Mallory Kane is hired out by her handler to various global entities to perform jobs which governments can't authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Mallory is quickly dispatched on another mission to Dublin. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family, and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.

OK, i saw the advert and the film looked good kind of a Bourne film with a female lead but that is where the similarity ends.

I had pretty much no idea what was happening from one scene to the next, the story jumps all over the place. I am still trying to work out why she tells her life story & facts of the mission to a random stranger she meets in the diner, and the fact he happily jumps in the car (his car as well) with her.

If you liked the Ocean films/Bourne films then you might find something here but for me, and probably you, it is dire. This kind of film sounds good on paper but after that...

oh and don't get sucked in by the plethora of stars in the film some appear for a few mins and barely say anything (worth hearing?)and that is it.

I want to like it, but i don't and neither will you. My advice watch a bourne film to see how it should be done... From the first scene to the last, loved this film. I read reviews that said Gina Carano was stiff and at times cold or emotionless- which I thought was perfect. It may have been due her lack of acting experience, but, for her role, it was ideal. An assassin (I can only imagine)isn't the Susie Sunshine type. Why would she be warm and engaging. I watched the film having no idea who she was- but thought wow- here's a new female action star I would watch again and again.

As far as the film, the story itself- a bit formulaic, but in way that was not insulting and the direction made the pieces fun to watch. The cinematography and speed of the action was dead on. While some might find the action jerky, I think that is what keeps you on edge. The fight scenes were great- no overly polished as a real fight would not be either.

Overall, I am surprised the film did not do better. If anything, Haywire is most closely linked to last year's "Contagion," a kindred effort in style, theme, and value-marring detachment.
Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) works for a private company that does operations for which regular government operatives can't be sanctioned. After breaking off her relationship with the company's owner, she is going to leave this company and take a lot of the business with her. Rodrigo (Antonio Banderas) comes into possession of two pieces of knowledge, that Mallory is leaving the company and that a particular dissident is vulnerable. He coordinates a plan to have Mallory abduct the dissident (she thinks she is rescuing him) and then frame her for his murder. This makes his client and the owner of the company happy. Mallory gets wise to this when she finds the dead dissident with her brooch in his hand. At this point she has a fight with Paul (Michael Fassbender) and goes on the run. Mallory makes it to her dad's house and has a final showdown with the company's owner and his guys. Aaron (Channing Tatum) realizes he's been used to chase her down when she is in fact innocent and tries to help. Mallory takes revenge on Rodrigo and Kenneth (Ewan McGregor). Haywire was filmed from an original screenplay by British-American screenwriter Lem Dobbs. The viewer is meant to be in the dark about many things in the first half of the movie, it puts you in the place of the protagonist and let's you better feel what she's going through. You discover the clues as she does, and in the end they spell it all out and fill in the missing pieces using flashbacks so you complete the puzzle just as she does. The confusion is in the editing. The time jumps, scene transitions and overall choppy flow makes the story harder to follow. The whole movie hinges on the acting skills of a Muay Thai fighter instead of the huge cast of "A" list actors. Establishing shots are not made which causes confusion as the viewer tries to figure out where the scene fits within the story. The script doesn't grab the viewer and the movie could benefit from better casting for the roles of Mallory and Aaron. This movie had good intentions but loses the audience by failing to maintain the pace of the story. There are better ways to drop pieces of the puzzle and make the premise more engaging.
